This introduction is by our Deputy Chairman and Family Archivist.
The order in which other languages are given above (Swedish, Portuguese, German, French, Dutch,
Italian, Spanish and Finnish) corresponds with percentages in our FamSAC membership base (see
below!). That being stated, our Danish and Norwegian visitors are respectfully expected to
be able to read a rather dry northeastern dialect of theirs called Swedish.
Our "FamSAC of Stockholm & Blair" site here at Tribal Pages is constantly being updated. If as
relative you haven't been able to find yourself or your branch, delete your "cookies" (know
and check again. You and yours are probably in there by now.
Note, though, that only registered FamSAC members can be given the password to access pictures
listings of any persons alive today. That's Tribal Pages policy.
Lots of photos and illustrations are still being added, appearing as portraits of individuals
special galleries or for other illustrations. For the galleries, as more and more are done,
need to know your family code letter (T E M N A R S or G), go to "Photos", then "Index" from
black bar above, and see a corresponding Gallery Album, or else view individual "Gallery Pix"
name listings - beginning with G as in Gallery Pix - below! Just about all the pictures on this
website can be ordered from FamSAC in higher definition versions, portrait formats,
composites, collages and other print-outs.
F.M.S.A.C. is my personal book project about family history since 1988. Its title stands for
Familiae Magnae Suecanae Americanae & Cetera, meaning greater families of Swedish, American and
other nationalities. All the informartion in it will be found here eventually. There are eight
families included, in that book and here, namely each and every known ancestor and descendant
my Swedish great-great-grandparents, listed here from the all-paternal to the all-maternal with
greater family's code letter first:
T ~ Trued Abrehamsson & Karna Johansdotter, North Sandby, Scania;
and his family at that name link! Annual reunion date: May 5th.
E ~ Erland Andersson & Lena Nilsdotter, Dahln, Arvika, Vermillandia;
and his family at that name link! Annual reunion date: September 9th.
M ~ Kaj Mats Matsson & Rönns Anna Andersdotter, Frostbo, Dalecarlia;
and his family at that name link! Annual reunion date: May 9th.
N ~ Näktergals Anders Andersson & Anna Görsdotter, Gimsbärke, Dalecarlia;
and his family at that name link! Annual reunion date: July 31st.
A ~ Johan P. Andersson & Anna Katrina Andersdotter, Ersboda, Sudermania;
and his family at that name link! Annual reunion date: September 11th.
R ~ Gustaf Adolf (Sr.) & Mathilda (Wahlberg) von Reis, Nyköping, Sudermania;
and his family at that name link! Annual reunion date: July 2nd.
S ~ Knuts Johan & Stina (Andersdoter) Sandberg, Barkargärde, Dalecarlia; and
and his family at that name link! Annual reunion date: March 3rd.
G ~ Anders J. Gäfvert & Fredrika Wahlberg, Tjärna, Dalecarlia.
Anders & Fredrika
and their family at that name link! Annual reunion date: September 19th.
The siblings of fifteen of these sixteen founding parents (one had none) and many of their
descendants are also included, though these sibling branches, as we call them, are far from
and are thus open to much more research.
A word of warning to some sensitive souls may be in order about the infant mortality
rate in olden days, which gives you quite a jolt when viewing some families just about
devastated by it. ~ "Tell us, Thou clear and heavenly tongue, Where are the babes but
lately sprung? Lie they the lily-banks among?" (Robert Herrick liberally quoted).
To use this website effectively as a relative, I recommend that you first determine
which one or ones of the eight great families you belong to. My paternal cousins, for
example, belong to all four of T E M and N, whereas my maternal ones are in A R S and
G. If you aren't sure which of the couples of founding ancestors is/are yours, if you
need special photo prints or if you have corrections or additions, please send us a
message using the link above and we'll help you!
This site has now also been color-coded so you can follow primary lines of descent from
ancestors in past centuries by little colored squares next to names.
The FamSAC Society of Relatives of Stockholm, Sweden, and Blair, Nebraska, founded on June 16,
represents these eight families in its international membership and will issue printed family
history to its registered members. It goes under the umbrella of the Southerly Clubs of
and is registered in Sweden with the national organization number of 802432-9735, also
an American organization in Blair, the main seat of the immigration of these Swedes. To the
each relative and spouse/mate listed here an individual FamSAC code is given, adhering to
traditional, paternalistic genealogy. Each code is exclusive to each person (mine is T188.8.131.52
example). All co-parents and legal spouses are given an m, for mate, in my system (whereas
Pages also uses p for the unmarried), and both adopted and foster children have an f in FamSAC
coding (fD = foster daughter or adopted daughter).
Hundreds of persons listed who are (or were) registered FamSAC members are marked as such on
individual pages. These are the registered or so-called active members. What that means is in
bylaws, found in full on a page called "FamSAC the Organization".
Regarding "<" after a middle name, see under "little problems" below!
It can be good for a visitor to this FamSAC site to know that women normally did not
adopt the surnames of their husbands in Sweden prior to a name law passed in 1901. For
the period after that, a maiden name is usually entered here as a middle name (last in
sequence) to facilitate searches, whereas for other types of name changes (than
marriage) the same usually does not apply.
A few special information pages have been put in (see FamSAC as a name for example!).
Descendants of the Royal Family of Sweden are also involved, in two branches that
belong to my paternity (T E M N) and maternity (A R S G) respectively. Thus, to show
how, most members of that country's royal Bernadotte Dynasty also appear here, listed
with a last name of "Sweden" or of a few other countries that some royals adopted, e.g.
by marriage. For the full genealogy of Swedish royalty and a lot of other European
such, plus special information pages about their dynasties, see
~ Gunilla Thomsson, Chairman, originally published on October 4th, 2007.
P. S. A few little problems remain (June 2008):
Spouses may show up in incorrect places now and again, though I have done my best to
enter them all correctly. My apologies for some pages that may contain such
embarrassing mistakes due to formatting currently available.
It has been necessary, due to formats as yet limited here, to add such
prepositions as "von" or "of" in the first name fields of many individuals,
which causes some odd listings and headings on certain pages.
The first name normally used in addressing a person has to be put first among
first names in Tribal Pages format, so in many cases, preceding first names have been
entered in the personal information but are not always found in name headings. In 2009
we began putting them in as middle names with a left arrow "<" after them to show that
they actually (in a person's legal name) come before the first name used for address.
It does not seem to be safe to assume that an apostrophe (') or quotation marks
(") entered will show up as such, as they often show up as backwards-leaning
French grave accents instead.
Unmarried persons with children cannot currently be entered in such a
manner that they do not appear on some pages as married.
Finally, there is a bit of trouble with the Swedish letters Å, Ä and Ö. Last names
beginning with these letters appear for now under A and O in the list here on our home
page (just below here). For now, you'll have to search names with those letters by
using the "Find" button (which usually is not necessary). Fortunately, names and text
with these letters are not effected per se (they are all in there OK), just the search
aspect is a little complicated.
